5 Ways to Wear a Denim Jacket

Oh, my trusty denim jacket.  One of the most versatile pieces in my closet and a closet staple for me year after year (after year after year after year — if you get my drift).  I don’t travel without this thing and easily wear it 3-4x a week.  I wanted to share 5 different looks that I was able to recreate with new pieces from this upcoming season — all centered around my absolute favorite Levi’s Ex-Boyfriend Trucker Jacket.  I’ve had this jacket for YEARS, absolutely love the vintage color (the lighter color helps it go with just about everything).

The fit is everything as well — it hits me right at my hip bone and is a little on the boxy side, perfect for that oversized on purpose look I’m always going for.  If you’re looking for something a little more fitted or cropped (depending on your body type), you can find some other great denim jacket options HERE.

Who said denim on denim isn’t in style!?  It’s one of my favorite combos — just make sure to GLAM it up with some fun accessories like this statement bag and a chic pair of heels!

ALL WHITE LOOK

I absolutely adore wearing all white or all black under my denim jacket.  It’s such an easy go-to outfit that requires only the basics and absolutely zero thinking — so, you’ll find me in this combo quite often.  I’ve been gravitating towards cropped straight leg jeans, but this look also works with a pair of skinny jeans in either color and a fitted top under the jacket.  Throw on a pair of heels or even a pair of slides and you’ll feel so put together but insanely comfortable!

OVER A FLORAL DRESS

I love floral dresses but first of all, I’m ALWAYS (always) cold, so throwing a denim jacket over my shoulders definitely helps keep me warm.  Second of all, it helps to make an outfit feel a little more casual and less done up AKA less try-hard.  In the summer heat, I love pairing a fun, flirty, floral or tropical dress with my favorite pair of wedges (that help elongate my legs).  And, say what you want — I love the way a denim jacket looks over the shoulders.  When people say, “what purpose does that serve” — I say, “A LOT.”  Plus, it’s fashionable AF.

Denim jackets also work great when you’re trying to make a look less edgy.  You all know how obsessed I am with my vintage Guns n’ Roses band tee (more styles here), but I feel a bit too much like a bad ass sometimes with it on its own 😉  Throw on a pair of slides and a hat to make the look a little less rocker.  I also love pairing a fun hair accessory (like a hair scarf) with this look!

This was one of my favorite looks from last summer.  Paper bag shorts and pants are going to be huge again this year and to be honest, they are a little hard for me to style correctly.  They look best with something cropped on me, so I love being able to throw on this denim jacket for a little more coverage!
