One of our favorite things to do when traveling is to explore old properties. We’ve done so in Lake Como, Italy, Mexico, Charleston, San Fran, Key West, Newport, R.I. and at a few other places. When we planned to go to the South of France, I knew I wanted stay in Nice and day trip to over to the beautiful Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and see the gorgeous gardens. It was the perfect plan — my husband wanted to rent a car and drive along the coast of France from Nice to Monaco, and this was a stop along the way right in the middle. It was a win-win!
The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is about a 15 minute (easy) ride from Nice along the coast, so there was a lot to see even on the drive. It’s is a beautiful, pink, Italian-style villa with NINE different gardens along the property including French, Florentine, Japanese, and Spanish styles, with dancing fountains right in the middle. We learned they put on a show every 20 minutes and got to catch a glimpse — luckily, it was not when I was in the middle of the rocks trying to get the above shot! <— can you imagine?!
One of my favorite spots on the property was the Japanese garden where we saw a small, intimate wedding happening right when we were walking by! I heard a harp in the distance and turned to Raj and said, “Wow, this is excessive… they just have live music playing in the garden for ambience?!” and then we saw a glimmer of a white dress through the garden and it clicked! I feel like we are always around for a wedding!
I wore this floral wrap dress that was a perfect transitional print for summer to fall. These flats are always my go-to when traveling and go with just about anything! I’m very picky when it comes to flats (with a back) because I get blisters easily. These are so buttery soft and I’m always able to walk miles in them without even a little blister! Also, so many of you were asking about this exact hat earlier this year — it’s back in stock! Grab it now for next spring!
