2016 is definitely the year of travel for me and it’s been so fun to incorporate a bit of travel content here on Oh So Glam over the last few months! I obviously love getting to go to such fun and beautiful places – but I love being able to share what I did, where I stayed and all the other good stuff in between with you when I’m back!
I jetted out to The Outerbanks for the first time last week with some of my favorite blogger gals – Kristin from Living in Color Print, Ashley from SideSmile Style, Bethany from BSOUP, Cathy from Poor Little It Girl, Emily from Life with Emily, and Jessica from My Style Vita! We were invited to stay at the beyond gorgeous Sanderling Resort in Duck, North Carolina – right on the Atlantic Ocean, and honestly one of the prettiest beach-front properties I’ve ever seen. Read on to hear more about our time at Sanderling (and all the fun activities the resort offers), what we did around town, and what we packed!
Driving to The Outerbanks was an event itself – we packed 5 of the 7 girls and all our stuff into Cathy’s car and drove down from D.C. – about a 4.5 hour drive. If you count all the times we needed to stop for snack breaks (probably 3 in those few hours), bathroom breaks, and motion-sickness breaks, we’re talking more like 5.5 hours. We passed the time by screaming some good old N*SYNC and Britney Spears, eating Pringles, and talking shop about all the blogger stuff we can’t normally talk to anyone else about.
Driving through The Outerbanks was absolutely beautiful and we all literally started to scream as we started to get closer to the Sanderling Resort. There was something so peaceful and beautiful about driving down one long road – seeing the bay on one side and the ocean on the other and just being completely surrounded by water. The houses were absolutely stunning, and we passed through a few towns before arriving in Duck.
The Sanderling Resort welcomed us with open arms and kicked off our first night there with a beautiful charcuterie board and a few bottles of wine – so we headed down to the beach to watch the sunset and shoot some blog photos. We then headed down to the bonfire for a “build your own s’more” welcome event! They seriously had every topping you could ever imagine and every kind of candy to melt right on top of your marshmallow.
The resort itself is the perfect little beach escape with pools, restaurants, and a spa right on site! If you’re thinking this would be perfect for a wedding – you are not alone my friend. We saw two weddings while we stayed at the property and a friend mentioned to me that she knew someone else who got married there the weekend after we left!
Our last morning, we were treated to breakfast at Life Saving Station – named, the best breakfast on The Outerbanks. I ate an amazing eggs benedict with crab meat and we all shared a stack of insanely delicious pancakes – because, you know, why not indulge all the way?!
We were only in Duck for 2 full days, so we stayed close by the Sanderling Resort and ventured down to the Water Front Shops to explore, eat, and shop! We worked with the oh so talented photographer, Brooke Mayo, who took these fun shots of us on the pier! We also rented bikes from Kitty Hawk, which we rode down to the shops – yep, 10 miles total in dresses… not sure what we were thinking, but at least we worked off all the wine from the night before!
A few other things we loved?
- Sunset Ice Cream – that door painted with all those ice cream flavors was so joke! We of course had to stop and get a cone! I’m not a huge ice cream person, so I went with the delicious raspberry sorbet!
- Lunch at The Blue Point – we were starving from our intense (unexpected) workout so we chowed down here for lunch! Umm, the fried pickles are bomb dot com.
- Coffee at Duck’s Cottage – amazing iced tea and coffee plus it’s a book store and has the nicest front porch to hang out on!
- Dinner at Paper Canoe – seriously, one of the best seafood dinners I’ve ever had. I got the Wild Catch of the day and we split the Key Lime Pie! YUM!
We partnered with Lilly Pulizter to style some new summer arrivals – if you couldn’t tell from all the prints above! Lilly Pulizter is having a fun MDW promotion and giving away a ton of goodies with every purchase – including these fun beach balls, towels and totes! I loved this easy breezy caftan that I’m also packing up for Italy, it’s the perfect beach coverup and can also double as a dress!
