Between the Lines

{Forever 21 blazer (similar style here), BCBG striped tee, 7 for all Mankind jean shorts, Louis Vuitton bag, Steve Madden wedges (old, similar style here), Tom Ford sunglasses, Steve Madden belt, Michael Kors watch, Bangles: Michael Kors, David Yurman, Alex & Ani}

 Buying this $30 blazer at Forever 21 was definitely an impulse purchase a few months back, but it has ended up being a favorite spring staple of mine! I tend to grab it if I know I’ll end up cold (per usual) or if I’m lacking in the color department. I saw an outfit similar on Pinterest and loved the contrast of the cutoff jeans and the structured blazer… comfy yet, put-together. That’s becoming my fashion motto!

Today’s the LAST day to enter my delia langan jewelry giveaway! Don’t forget to check it out and enter… you may be the winner of the ‘I’m Hammered’ necklace. Also, Delia just did a big cross-country move to the San Fran area, so be sure to contact her if you’re interested in a trunk show: shopdelialangan@gmail.com.

Color Me Happy

{Forever 21 blazer & dress, Express tights, BCBG wedge booties (on sale!), Michael Kors bag, Earrings c/o Delia Langan Jewelry, Michael Kors watch, Charming Charlie bracelet, Banana Republic ring, Forever 21 headband}

This Spring will be about color. Not just any color, but all colors. And lots of them worn together. I’m talking about one of this season’s biggest trends, “Color Blocking.” I’ve been so anxious to try out this trend myself! To be honest, this trend requires a little bravery, especially since I’m more of a neutral gal… but you can do it!  Here are some of my tips:
-If you’re a color-blocking beginner, it’s best to stick with two colors that are extremely contrasting.
-Be sure to stick with solid colors without prints, ruffles, pockets, or frills to keep the look simple.
-Keep the shoes and all other accessories neutral.
-Either the top or the bottom clothing article should be fitted. This will provide structure to the outfit which is perfect for a polished look.
-For a more office appropriate look, stick with colors within the same palette to keep the look more harmonious.

This trend is set to stay around through 2013… will you be giving it a go?

Boyfriend Jeans

{BCBG blazer, H&M tee, Citizens of Humanity Dylan Cropped Jeans c/o Kimberly Boutique, Target Shoes, Michael Kors watch, Charming Charlie bracelet, Michael Kors bag, Ray Ban Wayfarers}

Boyfriend jeans are the tomboy counterpart to the skinny jean, which happen to be my go-to for the past six years.  I’m trying to branch out of my skinny jean uniform, and am here to tell you that the boyfriend jean can easily look just as polished and classic when worn with stylish separates and accessories. In fact, I’m finding they can be a fresh alternative to wearing a pair of leggings on your lazy days.

To maintain a ladylike appearance, try to pair them with tailored pieces (blazers/blouses)  and feminine accessories (bright jewelry/statement heels). If everything else is tailored, you’re free to have fun… I actually found the rolled-up cuffs helped to show off my leopard pumps! (These pumps were $30 at Target by the way, SCORE!)
