Savvy Shopping

I always like to consider myself a savvy shopper.  Sure, I like expensive things (my dad calls that “champagne taste on a beer budget”), but I rarely ever feel like spending full price.  Being with my boyfriend Raja for 6 1/2 years only feeds my addiction to bargain hunt… he is ALL about getting the deal.  Here are some of my favorite savvy shopping tips:

1. Discount department stores should be your BFF.  Seriously.  Ever go into Nordstrom and see the SAME item of clothing at a Nordstrom Rak?  I see it all the time… especially with basics (like tees and jeans).  I stock up on these items for a heavy discount because they are usually amazing quality and long lasting.  Talk to the store manager and find out when inventory comes into the store.  It’s usually during the week but would be worth the bit of inconvenience to travel after work if you have the best selection.
2. Two words. SOCIAL. MEDIA. Make sure you’re following your favorite stores online and sign up to receive email.  Sometimes they throw 30% off discounts for fans and followers.  I bought a Tory Burch bag that way that I had my heart set on.
3. I love using ShopStyle that lets you search for an item and compare prices between retailers.  It’s like using Priceline for a shopping addiction.
4. Don’t be afraid to buy used.  This year I went on a bit of a bag bender and purchased two bags that I had on my wish-list for years (a Celine luggage tote and Chanel flap bag).  I’m not the least bit ashamed to say I bought both of those used (after doing much research to ensure they were legit).  I paid a FRACTION of what I would have spent and you would have never known they were gently loved by some other fashionista before I adopted them.
