Our Wedding: The Morning Of

It’s Wedding Wednesday again and I’m back with some moments from the morning of.  If you missed my first wedding post last week, make sure to check out the highlights (including our video)!

Getting ready all day was actually one of the most fun parts about our day and I loved getting to spend so much time with all nine of my gorgeous bridesmaids, my mom and grandma.  I loved having everyone in one room!  How often does that happen?!  I stayed with Raja’s sister the night before (and actually slept like a rock) and was picked up at 7am by my maid-of-honor, Dana, blasting “Going to the Chapel” out her car windows!  We kicked off the morning with massages, coffee and fruit, and then it was time to start getting beautiful!  My hairdresser Emily (the owner of Teazd Salon in Avon, CT) came with her team and did our hair and makeup.  Having someone there that I know and love instantly calmed any nerves I had going into the day, so we turned the music up, popped some champs and started the party!

Oh So Glam Wedding: Getting Ready Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding: Mother of Bride Getting Ready Oh So Glam Wedding Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding Beauty Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids We had an incredibly hot (but sunny!) day, so my bridesmaids mostly chose to pull their hair back in loose, un-done styles.  There were lots of boho braids and glamour curls, and I thought they all just looked so beautiful!

For my own hair and makeup, I kept my look very simple and true to what I normally look like.  I felt that was important to not only feel like myself, but I wanted my dress to be the star of the show. Emily used Urban Decay’s Naked Palette to give me a subtle smokey eye and I brought my favorite neutral lip color, bareMineral’s Marvelous Moxie in ‘Break Away’ to keep the overall look soft.  For my hair, I added some clip-in extensions to give me some extra length and volume for the day, since my hair is on the fine side.  Luxy Hair makes the best extensions in my opinion and since my hair is always baliage or ombre, having hair extensions that fade from dark to light is the best thing that’s ever happened!

I also had a few brides-to-be ask what color nail polish I was wearing for the big day!  This was such a tough one for me because I normally do my own nails, but wanted to make sure they were perfect for photos!  I went to my local salon a few weeks before for a nail color trial and didn’t love the color I ended up choosing, so when it came time for my actual appointment, I brought in my own that I wore all summer!  I’m wearing Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in ‘Creme de la Creme.’

Crew Bridesmaid Dresses Oh So Glam Wedding: BHLDN Robe Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids Oh So Glam Wedding Bridesmaids For getting ready, I always loved the idea of matching robes (and it makes for some beautiful photos).  BHLDN was kind enough to send my bridal party a mix of light pink and blue silk robes and gifted me this gorgeous cream lace robe.  I loved the contrasted tie and long lace on the sleeves!  I’ve worn it on more than one occasion after the wedding!  BHLDN has such an incredible selection of robes for your entire bridal party!  I love these floral ones too!

Since our wedding was in the middle of summer, I went with white and blush hydrangeas, garden roses and mixed in some greenery for some muted color.  We tied a long cream ribbon on all the bridal party’s stems, which gave a gorgeous boho feel to the arrangements, and looked so pretty against the chiffon bridesmaid dresses.

I borrowed a pair of pearl and diamond earrings from my best friend and college roommate for my ‘Something Borrowed’ — she actually wore them in her own wedding the year before.  They went perfectly with both of our dresses and I just love that tradition!  The beaded BHLDN clutch I wore during my wedding will actually be borrowed by another one of my bridesmaids, getting married this April!

Another few touches that made for some perfect photos were these custom wire hangers that my cousin made for me, my entire bridal party, mom, mother-in-law and grandma.  I actually gave them to my bridal party with their robes on them initially and then they hung up their dresses while we were all getting ready.  I told her she could make a fortune if she opened up her own Etsy shop, but she just wants to make them for fun (aww), so I found a similar shop on Etsy that makes them!  The Mrs. Box also sent me a beautiful vintage velvet ring holder with an embroidered ‘T’ in gold.  Not only did it keep our rings in it for our ceremony, but we used it as a prop to take pictures of the rings!  It comes in a ton of colors and fonts and makes the perfect gift!

My bridesmaid’s picked their own dresses from J. Crew in three colors (champagne, misty rose and dusty thistle) and carried these monogrammed clutches (a little gift from my friends over at GiGi New York).  They also had these KEY foldable flats in rose gold tucked away to change into for dancing (because we did SO much of that) from Yosi Samra!

Nobody warned me that toddler meltdowns do not care about the occasion, the location, or how nice the view is. 🤣 They come for you at the grocery store, in the car, and apparently on a beautiful Tuesday in Newport with a bridge view that belongs on a postcard. 🙃

At some point you stop trying to prevent them and you just start choosing better backdrops. 👏🏻 That is the real toddler mom hack that nobody is talking about.

Toddler moms, this one is for you.

I’m 40, I have 2 kids, and I have tried absolutely every beauty product. I like what I like and these are the 5 (well actually 6) things that made the cut.

After a decade and a half of testing, trialing, and honestly being influenced by the internet just as much as anyone else, my everyday makeup routine has never been simpler or worked better. A color correcting skin tint with SPF that gives me coverage and color in one step. A serum concealer that makes the under eye area of a sleep deprived mom of toddlers look genuinely alive. A drugstore brow liner that is a fraction of the price of the one I used to swear by and performs identically, maybe better. A bronzer blush hybrid that is the closest thing I have found to looking like you just got back from a week in the sun without leaving Connecticut. And a lip stain and lip oil combination that stays on through coffee, chaos, and everything in between.

This is my 5 minute face. My simple makeup routine for every single day, whether I have somewhere to be or nowhere to be. At 40 I finally stopped chasing the next best thing and started trusting what I actually know works for my skin, my life, and the approximately 4 minutes I have to get ready on most mornings. 🙃

Comment GLOW below and I will DM you all 5 products directly.

Still summering. Unapologetically and on purpose, because if you know me, you know I absolutely cannot stand how quickly everyone rushes past this season, especially in New England where we get maybe 8 weeks of real summer if we’re lucky. We do this every year without fail. 2 hours from home and somehow it feels like we’ve landed somewhere on the French Riviera. @oceanhouseri has that effect on people and I stopped questioning it a long time ago.

There is something that happens to us when we get away from Connecticut, from the mental load of running a household and 2 businesses and 2 very opinionated toddlers. We fall right back into the version of us that existed before all of it. The couple that used to stay at dinner for 4 hours just talking. We rode bikes, got 9 hours of sleep a night, and had a few uninterrupted meals, and I cannot stress enough what that combination can do for a marriage. Highly recommend, 10 out of 10.

19 years together. 11 married. And I still catch myself thinking I really like this person. Not in any surface level way, but in a we-have-been-through-genuinely-hard-things-and-I-would-still-choose-you-every-single-time kind of way.

Turning 40 felt like the right moment to actually stop and notice that. So we did.

Comment BEACH below and I will send you everything I packed and wore for the trip.

19 years. 11 married. Still my favorite person to do absolutely everything with.

The way I could just live in easy summer pieces.

Imagine what a few uninterrupted meals could do for a marriage.

This matcha girlie made the mistake of having coffee and promptly felt anxiety re-enter my body within 15 minutes 🤣

The amount of compliments I got on this bag! Wait until you see the price!

I wish I could say “it’s like riding a bike” but truthfully, I panic for the first 10 minutes I’m back on a bike every single time 🤣

This $20 sarong always stays in my beach bag for a quick coverup.

Dinner on the beach, I’ve always wanted to do the famous Ocean House Lobster Boil.

It was everything and more 😍

Watch Hill sunsets are elite.

The best few days. ❤️
