EWG Verified Beauty Products

This post has been a long time coming.  Over the past few years, I have had requests for all natural beauty products from a few close friends and some friends that have followed along with Oh So Glam through Facebook.  A few have been pregnant or new moms and a couple have just been following along with the Environmental Working Group (EWG) VERIFIED™ movement, and interested to know if I had tested out any products.

Being a beauty blogger over the last few years has allowed me to try so many products and the amount of requests I receive to try products has my UPS and FedEx delivery friends making daily appearances at my front door.  And, honestly – although it’s a pretty sweet gig to constantly try out new things on the market, I am someone who is very conscious about what goes on (or in) my body.  I do my best to eat as clean as possible and really feel the gross effects when I don’t – so giving this box of all natural beauty products a try was something I immediately jumped on and I’m excited to be a part of the EWG VERIFIED™ Program.  The goal of this new EWG VERIFIED™ label is to help consumers make smart and easy shopping choices – now, you can look for this label to know that these products have gone through the rigorous standards that EWG has set in place. EWG VERIFIED™ products include cosmetics like foundations, blushes, eye shadows and eye liners, lipsticks and lip glosses; skin care products including cleansers and moisturizers; shampoos and soaps; and many more.  EWG VERIFIED™ products must:

  • Be free of EWG’s ingredients of concern
  • Fully disclose all ingredients on the label
  • Be produced with the best manufacturing practices

If you’re interested to know more about what criteria goes into this mark, head over to the EWG website and learn more – it’s really eye opening!  There’s also some great news for you – you have a chance to win one of these complete boxes so you can try all the products yourself (and don’t have to take my word for it).  Make sure to head all the way to the bottom of this post to see how you can enter to win!

Although I gave most of these products a try over the last few weeks, there were definitely a few that had sparked my interest early on and I’m going to be reviewing a few of my favorites.  I had tried a few other natural deodorants – as using regular antiperspirant was something I’ve tried to remove from my routine a few other times before but never found one that I absolutely loved.  This Purely Great Citrus Cream Deoderant that is created with essential oils is probably the best one I’ve tried yet.  I’ll be the first to admit – getting used to a natural deodorant is the first hard step.  I’ve really only used on days where I wasn’t do much activity – meaning, I’m sitting down at my desk for 9 hours working and not really breaking a sweat.  I love the citrus scent (there’s also a lavender scented one and a non-scented one) and I do feel fresh as long as I’m staying put for the most part.  For days where I have a workout class, am vigorously cleaning and will be in the company of others – I’ll still probably stick to my normal antiperspirant, but I think even cutting that out of my routine even just a little bit will help.  The other two products that I absolutely loved out of this basket are the eye creams above and I even traveled with them to Charleston.  The Silk Therapeutics Eye Revive reduces puffiness and the appearance of dark circles, fine lines, and wrinkles.  I used this on the days that I traveled too and I swear I looked so much less jet lagged – I just kept it right in my bag and reached for it as soon as I sat down on the plane.  The Cocoon Apothecary Eyewaken Eye Cream is perfect for the mornings as it moisturizes and soothes tired eyes, so I typically apply right after washing my face before putting my moisturizer on!

You can enter win this entire basket of goodies to give them all a try for yourself – 5 lucky readers will be receiving a basket just like this!  Just use the widget below to enter (running through 5/16)!

hey girl! i LOVE this post. i’ve been trying to inform people about EWG ratings for cosmetics and sunscreen. that’d be a good thing for you to consider posting about this time of year if you haven’t already.
i hear ya- the transition away from antiperspirant was a tough one for me but i made it a commitment to do so when i was breastfeeding and i haven’t looked back. someday you’ll have kids and really convert to a full on crunchy gal 😉

Thanks so much Rachel! I totally agree about the sunscreen – do you have any recommendations for me?? Maybe I’ll give a few a try and do another review before sun season really starts! Thanks so much for stopping by!

i can give you some homemade sunscreen to try and also check the Badger brand at Whole Foods – it’s a little pricey but safest ingredients in my opinion.
