My (Winter Updated) Morning & Night Skincare Routine

WEARING: Mongrammed Robe | Pink Pajamas | Nightmask NAIL COLOR: OPI ‘That’s What Friends Are Thor’

I always love connecting with you guys, direct messages on Instagram have been such a fun way for me to chat with you all!  One of the most asked questions is about my skincare routine (which I’ve shared about in the past), but I wanted to put a little video together to show you both my morning and night routine, as well as a guide to show you how and when I use each product!  I’m very passionate about skincare — I absolutely LOVE chatting with skincare professionals and learning about what products do, why you should use them and in what order, and how to PREVENT certain problems from even forming.  A heads up (since I know I will get comments) — yes, my skincare routine is an investment.  I’ve spent the last ten or so years trying a wide variety of products and have found that this routine works for me — I’ve seen results and am so happy with the shape my skin is in!  For me (at 31), I feel it’s JUST as important for me to take care of my skin as it is for me to take care of the rest of my body.  Feeling like my skin is fresh and healthy (without any work done) has given me a lot more self-confidence than I even had in my twenties.

I’m sharing my full routine (step-by-step) below, sharing a few other products I throw into rotation, and answering some other skincare related questions at the bottom of the post!

MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE

SKINCEUTICALS EQUALIZING TONER

After splashing my face with water and drying with a clean towel, I apply a few sprays of SkinCeuticals Equalizing Toner to a cotton pad and wipe my face and neck.  I stopped cleansing my face in the AM (that happens right before bed in my nighttime routine below), and use this toner to wipe off any excess grit/grime/sweat from sleeping.  It’s alcohol-free and leaves my skin feeling clean without drying it out.

SKINCEUTICALS C E FERULIC

One step I was missing in my routine for years was a DAYTIME serum.  I used to only wear serum at night, but adding this step has changed my skin.  I have fair skin, and suffered a lot of post-acne marks, some light sunspots, and some uneven skintone issues that I was just covering up with makeup.  I added this SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic acid to my routine last year and almost immediately started noticing results on those problem areas.  I apply to my freshly toned skin and make sure to let it dry completely before the next step.

*GLAM beauty tip: don’t forget your neck with serum!

TULA REVITALIZING EYE CREAM

My undereye area is SO extremely dry, and it took me a while to find an eye cream that did the job.  There’s nothing more I hate (in terms of makeup) than undereye concealer starting to cake and crease, and that starts with a hydrated eye.  This TULA Revitalizing Eye Cream has probiotic technology and locks in hydration — plus, it has a slight cooling effect and immediately helps with puffiness.  Perfect for first thing in the AM!

SKINCEUTICALS TRIPLE LIPID RESTORE 2:4:2

Since it’s winter and the temps have been colder than EVER (for longer than ever) this year, my skin has been SO insanely dry.  I usually apply a SPF to either act as my moisturizer, or to wear underneath, but honestly, I’ve been skipping that step as I have spent ZERO time outside in weeks.  This SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore Moisturizer is the most buttery texture and my skin LOVES to soak it in!  It hydrates without feeling greasy in the slightest, and dries in seconds.  I can apply my makeup almost right away, without a heavy feeling!

JADE ROLLER

A step I actually skipped in the video is this jade roller, but I typically use it every single day.  You MAY have seen these around the beauty world, and for good reason.  I picked up this one from Amazon (the price is a no-brainer), and love to roll it over my freshly-hydrated face if I have any additional puffiness.  It helps circulate blood flow (due to the rolling) and the jade stone stays so cold and is a nice kick for first thing in the morning.  I bring down through my neck as well (to help promote lymphatic drainage, which reduces swelling and detoxifies your body).

*GLAM beauty tip: pop the jade roller in the freezer for a minute or two if you have time, or leave in the fridge (in a towel) for an extra cool pop!

PHILOSOPHY PURITY WIPES + ORIGINS MAKEUP REMOVER

After letting my lash extensions grow out, I needed to amp up the makeup removal process because holy crap, mascara holds on for dear life.  I love these philsophy cleansing wipes but apply a little of this new Origins makeup removing jelly to the wipe to help easily remove mascara.  I try to avoid rubbing my eyes a ton (I try to protect my lashes by doing as little touching of them as possible), and this jelly makes my eye makeup slide right off!

SKINCEUTICALS REPLENISHING CLEANSER

Now it’s time to cleanse!  I started only washing my face with cleanser once a day back in the spring of last year and it made such an amazing change to my skin.  I think I was over-washing (by also cleansing in the morning) and it was drying out my face (while also making it produce more oil).  This SkinCeuticals Replenishing Cleanser is so mild and creamy, but rinses away anything too heavy and leaves my skin feeling so clean.

Oh So Glam Skincare

SKINCEUTICALS RESVERATROL B E

This SkinCeuticals Resveratrol B E serum helps with firmness and overall complexion and is designed to work overnight — AKA, this is my anti-aging step.  I apply two or three pumps of this to my entire face (and bring down through my neck) and make sure to leave it on for a minute or two before moving on to the next step!

Oh So Glam Skincare

SKINCEUTICALS HYALURONIC ACID INTENSIFIER

Hyaluronic Acid is such a big buzzword in the beauty world right now.  Without getting all technical and scientific, this SkinCeuticals HA Intensifier is basically steroids for your moisturizer.  It allows your moisturizer to do its best and REALLY hydrate the skin in the next step, while also helping with firmness and elasticity.

TRISH McEVOY BEAUTY BOOSTER EYE SERUM & RETINOL CREAM

If you’ve been following along with my beauty routine in the past, you’ll notice this eye duo is still here to play!  I first apply a little of this Trish McEvoy Eye Serum (which helps smooth fine lines, brighten under eye darkness, and reduce puffiness overnight).  Once that dries, I’ll apply a little of this Retinol Eye Cream under my eye, around the side of my eye (to combat crows feet), and up into my eyelid.

Oh So Glam Skincare

LA MER MOISTURIZING SOFT CREAM

I wish I didn’t love this stuff as much I do, because the price tag is ridiculous, but this is the holy grail of skincare in my opinion.  My husband even sneaks some and says it’s absolutely incredible.  I tend to savor this jar and use it when I feel I’m in MAJOR need of hydrating, because this stuff is THICK.  It’s the only moisturizer I’ve ever used where 10 hours later, I feel like my skin just got a fresh layer.  A bottle of La Mer Moisturizer Soft Cream typically lasts me about 8 months, so at least I don’t go through it fast!

Oh So Glam Skincare

STRIVECTIN LIGHT TIGHTENING NECK CREAM

One of my most self-conscious areas, I invested in this neck cream and have tried to be religious about keeping it in my routine (it’s one of those steps that is SO easy to forget).  They promote this Strivectin Neck Cream product for “tech-neck” — yes it’s a thing for all us millennials, we clearly look down at our phones WAY too much!  This helps to tighten the skin on the neck and jawline!

*GLAM beauty tip: apply the product using upward strokes!

SKINCEUTICALS ANTIOXIDANT LIP REPAIR

After my dentist noted that I had SUN DAMAGE on my lips, I almost lost it.  I’m SO GOOD about applying sunscreen, but you need to constantly reapply to your lips (especially when you’re out in the sun sipping a beer).  In addition to making sure my lips are always protected, I started using this SkinCeuticals Lip Cream to both hydrate my lips over night and also fight the signs of aging.

Oh So Glam Skincare

The above are some other products I use in the mix (but not every single night).  I didn’t want my step-by-step process to be ANY LONGER… because I realize that 8 nightly steps sounds slightly psychotic.  😉

SkinCeuticals Retinol 1.0.  This helps to resurface the skin, making it a game changer for fine lines and scaring.  About 2-3 nights per week, I apply this to my problem areas (forehead, laugh lines, chin) after washing my face.  The nights I do this, I usually start my routine earlier in the night by washing my face and will apply and then head to watch a little TV or read before finishing the rest of my routine.  This product works best when left to do its magic without adding other products right away!

goop Instant Facial.  Oh, Gwyneth Paltrow — can you do any wrong?!  I was so hesitant on goop products but WOW, what a surprise this was.  This is the product that G herself swears by so after meeting her team, I was sold to give it a try.  After washing my face, if I feel like my skin needs a little extra tough love, I’ll pat dry my face and apply a thick layer of this exfoliant and work into my skin for about a minute or two.  You will feel when its ready to come off.  She swears the stinging means its working.  After I wash it off, it legitimately feels like I went into an office for a facial.

Clinique Clay Mask.  If I’m feeling like my skin is out of control… maybe I had a really bad eating weekend, maybe I left my makeup on and then worked out, maybe I wore a face full of makeup for a few days in a row… I break out this stuff.  I apply a thin layer right after washing my face, let it dry for about 10 minutes and rinse, and then continue with the rest of my routine.  For me, it feels like this product helps you set the reset button.

philosophy Brightening Peel Pads.  I LOVE these pads because they are so travel friendly.  Since this skincare routine is SO long and involves so many products, you could imagine that it’s not ideal for travel.  When I’m going away, I throw 2-3 of these pads in my makeup case (and they take the place of the first three products on this list).

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion.  When the inevitable blemish surfaces, I reach for this $17 miracle.  You aren’t supposed to shake it.  The pink sediment on the bottom is supposed to stay at the bottom and that’s the secret sauce.  I’ll dip a Q-tip to the bottom and apply to a blemish as a spot treatment and leave overnight.  This is supposed to be BEFORE you pick or pop at a pimple, because it DOES dry your skin a ton.  If you apply to broken skin, you’ll end up with a scab, which could lead to potential scarring!

In addition to readers asking for my routine, here are some of the most common questions.

SO MANY STEPS.  Do you really do this every day and every night?  How long does this routine take?

It’s important to me to dedicate time to my routine.  Just like the gym (or eating healthy), it takes a little work.  There are definitely days that I want to just climb into bed, but I don’t let myself, because I know my skin will pay for it.  In the morning, my routine takes me 5 minutes tops (before makeup), but my nighttime routine is a little more aggressive and takes about 15 minutes.  And yes, I really go through these steps every single night!

Does diet impact your skin as well?

I will be writing an entire post about this, but yes, my diet is another huge reason my skin has changed over the last few years.  I eat a mostly plant-based diet and have found that eliminating dairy from my diet (almost completely) has helped control breakouts and has helped give me a brighter complexion.

I sell “ENTER PRODUCT” and would love for you to try the line!

Since it took me SO LONG to find a routine that worked (through a lot of trial and error), I am not adding anything into the mix right now, and certainly not changing up the majority of my skincare!  If something works, it works, so I’m currently passing on any other routines and skincare lines at the moment.  I still support you though, get it girl!

At what age did you start anti-aging routines?

I started using serums at about age 28 and honestly wish I started earlier.  It’s never too early to PREVENT anything, so I think if you’re in your mid-twenties, you could definitely add a serum or two into the mix (as well as eye cream and moisturizer).  It took me years to find a routine that works and I can’t say this enough… it’s easier to PREVENT than to fix.  Just like with anything else related to your body — take care.  It drives me CRAZY when I hear people just assuming they can fix every skin problem with Botox.  Why not address the issues before they become actual problems?  There’s nothing wrong with a little help from a needle (I don’t judge) — but just assuming that you can free-for-all-it for years and then expect a needle to take off all that time and damage is just foolish to me!

Do you have any drugstore products you can recommend that are more budget friendly?!

I always love using these Neutrogena makeup wipes (I’m currently just using what I have a stash of) + have heard wonderful things from other bloggers about the Olay Regenerist Line!

Let me know if you have any other questions — I can talk about skincare for DAYS! 🙂

Been wanting/needing to change up my skincare routine, because of course I’m also a 31-year-old gal (WHEN did that happen?) Went through your list and found a great Skinceuticals trio on dermstore.com here https://www.dermstore.com/product_AntiAging+System_38328.htm. Never used this brand before, but they appear to get rave reviews. One question – you only use retinol in your eye cream/serum. How important do you think retinol is and do you feel it’s missing from the rest of your products or do other ingredients essentially give the same benefit?
